Mexico Guerreros turned the tables on rivals USA Knockouts in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) with a crucial 4-1 victory in Aguascalientes.

The corresponding clash in Miami in week four had gone the way of the Americans - also with a 4-1 scoreline - but the Mexicans were able to take revenge at the Unidad Deportiva IV Centenario.

It was an important win as the Guerreros overtook the Knockouts in Group B and now sit in second place, meaning they are closing in on the play-offs.

Ecuador's Julio Castillo saw off the USA's national trials silver medallist Adrian Taylor at heavyweight, with his effective hooks helping him get the verdict from all three judges.

At bantamweight, Ivan Delgado was also on form for Mexico as he gained a unanimous decision win against the Knockouts' Colombian hopeful Johan Vargas.

It was a debut WSB appearance for Vargas, but he looked nervous in the first round and Delgado was able to dominate.

Gustiniano Mina got the USA on the board as he defeated Colombia's Jorge Vivas at middleweight.

Vivas has recently qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics but Mina's jab was effective as he fought his way to a surprise win by virtue of unanimous decision.

The overall win for Mexico was settled at light flyweight, however, as 19-year-old Elwin Soto claimed his first WSB victory with an impressive knock-out of USA's Colombian teenager Hernan Alarcon.

Some fine body shots and lethal jabs came to the fore and the bout was stopped in the opening round to the delight of the home crowd.

In the final fight of the evening, Mexico's light welterweight Roberto Zariñana made his WSB debut and knocked out Robby Gonzales in round four.

The crucial blow was a damaging right body shot to complete a satisfying victory for Mexico.

Guerreros have one more point than USA in the standings, with the undefeated British Lionhearts on top and already through.

Mexico will host Britain on April 2, with the Knockouts facing bottom team Morocco Atlas Lions in the last fixtures in the group.

The top two will progress to the play-offs.
