The Canadians, last year's runners-up, won two more matches as round robin play continued at the showpiece event.

In the morning session they beat last year's champions Switzerland 7-5 in a repeat of the 2015 final, before following that up with a comprehensive 10-2 success over neighbours United States.

The victory over the Swiss was particularly pleasing for winning Canadian skip Chelsea Carey.

“We thought we played pretty well," said the 31-year-old, who is making her first World Championship appearance.

"We know no matter which Swiss team is here, it was going to tough, they're all so good.

"Even when we're struggling, we're doing a good job of staying calm and staying together, grinding it out, and that's where you need to be in such a long week."

Canada now have three victories and no defeats, a record matched by the Japanese after they added to their double success yesterday by beating Russia 6-1.

That was a first defeat of the competition for the Russians, while Scotland also moved to a 2-1 record after two wins on day two.

They saw off South Korea 8-6 and Germany 10-3, with the latter result the Germans' first reverse.

They had moved to two victories from two in the second session by beating Sweden 9-6, but were unable to join Canada and Japan on maximum points against the Scots.

Switzerland recovered from their defeat to Canada by beating Denmark 7-6 and also boast two wins and a defeat.

There were also first victories of the tournament for Finland, Denmark and South Korea as they all moved to a victory and two losses.

The Danes beat winless United States 8-7, while Finland beat an Italy side who are also searching for their first success by the same scoreline.

South Korea beat Sweden, who have won one and lost two, 8-6.

The action continues tomorrow with the top four after the round robin reaching the play-offs.
