Cuba’s Leidis Laura Moya proved to be the start athlete of the competition, posting the fastest time in the swim, before backing up the performance by ending second the riding event.

It place her top of the individual standings and she preserved that position by posting a time of 12min 34sec in the combined discipline to end on 1,366 points.

Argentina’s Iryna Khokhlova and Guatemala’s Sophia Hernandez won the silver and bronze medals, scoring 1,352 and 1,347 points respectively.

Their teams lacked strength in depth, however, allowing America to secure the team title.

Samantha Achterberg led the US challenge, ending the competition in fifth place on 1,336 points.

Her team-mate Margaux Isaksen finished a place further back on 1,327 points.

Her sister Isabella ensured the team of the title coming home in eight place on 1,282 points.

Emily Bourdeau ended 14th but her score did not count towards their final tally.

The men’s competition is scheduled to take place tomorrow.
