Home hero Mohamed Hammadi earned his second gold of the inaugural International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Asia-Oceania Championships after success in the men’s T34 800 metres in Dubai.

The United Arab Emirates star, a silver medal winner at the IPC Athletics World Championships last year, was looking to back up his victory over 200m yesterday.

His triumph never looked in doubt after he established a comfortable lead during the event at the Police Officer’s Club stadium, crossing in a winning time of 1min 56.91.

Qatar’s Mohammed Al-Kubaisi Rashid and Khalid Al-Hajri were able to secure podium finishes after clocking 2:13.34 and 2:58.90 respectively.

“I’m satisfied with my level but I must search for my faults,” said Hammadi afterwards.

“What is important is that I fix any mistakes from the past few years and make sure I have improved.

“I’m looking to improve myself, I’m not looking for times.

“This is my first competition of the year and I have my plans, also to prepare myself for my next tournaments.”

Rashed Aldhaheri delivered further success for the hosts after he triumphed in the men’s 1500m T54 event, by clocking a time of 3:25.19.

His team-mate Badir Alhawasin was able to claim the silver medal by crossing in 3:26.40.
