Scott Piercy and Marcus Fraser share the lead after day one of the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral.

Both players sit on six-under-par at the first World Golf Championship event of the year at the Florida course, after rounds of 66.

America's five-time major winner Phil Mickelson is a shot further back with England's Danny Willett fourth on four-under-par.

Piercy, the 37-year-old American who boasts three PGA Tour victories, said: "It felt like I got back at least on the right tracks to see results this week.

"I was pleasantly surprised.”

Australian Fraser, who is also 37, has a best Major performance of 20th which he achieved last year at The Open Championship.

He came into the Cadillac Championship in good form having won the Maybank tournament in Malaysia a fortnight ago and then coming 15th at an event in Perth.

"Before Malaysia, my game didn’t feel that great,” Fraser said.

“Then all of the sudden, it clicked in Malaysia.

"I feel like I carried that into Perth and feel like I’ve done that again today.”

World number one Jordan Spieth is three shots behind the leaders ahead of day two with four-time major winner Rory McIlroy, who is playing with a new cross-handed grip, on one-under-par.
