Germany's Maximilian Arndt has won the overall International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) four-man World Cup title for a second time after piloting his team to victory on his home track in Königssee today.

The 28-year-old from Suhl, backed by pushers Alexander Roediger, Kevin Kuske and Martin Putze, clocked a winning time of 1min 38.15sec after a pair of runs.

Second place went to the Austrian quartet of pilot Benjamin Maier, Marco Rangl, Markus Sammer and Dănuț Moldovan, 0.13 secnds adrift.

Arndt's compatriot Francesco Friedrich, who started the day as the only man with a realistic chance of overhauling him at the top of the standings, was third with Candy Bauer, Martin Grothkopp and Thorsten Margis.

Friedrich won the opening two races of the season but his team were 0.24 behind and he has to settle for second overall, with 1,570 points compared to his team-mate's 1,715.

Rico Peter's Swiss crew were sixth today and finished third overall with 1,512 points.

Arndt, previously the overall winner in 2014, was rewarded for a fine season which saw him win the final two World Cup races and appear on the podium at every event.

Only one race was won by a non-German team when Russia triumphing in Park City last month.

The champion claimed, though, that his success was no consolation to losing out at this month's World Championships in Innsbruck, when Latvia's Oskars Melbardis, who was fifth in the World Cup, secured the title.

"Even if this doesn’t make up for the World Championships, we can be happy with the way we finished the season," said Arndt.

"We did everything right in the race today.”
