Belgium’s table tennis trio of Marc Ledoux, Laurens Devos and Florian Van Acker have been announced as the first members of the country’s Rio 2016 Paralympic team.

Devos is viewed as one of Belgium’s rising stars in the sport, with the 15-year-old currently ranked third in class nine.

Having triumphed in the 2015 European Championships in Denmark, he is viewed as a potential medal prospect for Rio 2016.

His compatriot Van Acker, though, will be seen as a key hope for gold as he is the current number one in the class 11 standings.

The 19-year-old showed his clear potential at the 2014 World Championships when he secured a bronze medal, but he will head into the Games as the reigning European champion having topped the podium in Denmark.

Both Devos and Van Acker will be able to count on the experience of Ledoux during their first experience of the Games.

Ledoux will be competing at his fourth successive Games, with the class eight competitor’s most successful appearance coming at Athens 2004.

At the Games he secured an individual silver, but was able to celebrate claiming gold in the team competition.

The trio were announced by Belgium’s Chef de Mission Olek Kazimirowski, with further selections due to be announced in the coming months.

The Rio 2016 Paralympics are scheduled to take place from September 7 to 18.
