New Zealand’s Alex Maloney and Molly Meech moved into the lead of the 49erFX World Championships at Clearwater Beach in Florida.

The pairing, the world champions in 2013, produced two strong performances in the yellow fleet to record third and first place finishes in the opening two races of the day.

A lowly 10th in the final race proved to be their worst result of the regatta so far, but with the score currently being discarded the Kiwis have moved onto a tally of 24 points.

Overnight leaders Victoria Jurczok and Anika Lorenz of Germany are now three points off the pace, crossing the line in ninth position in consecutive races, before recording a third place.

They lie just a point clear of Brazil’s Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze, who recorded two victories to move onto a total of 28 and remain firmly in contention for the world title.

Spain's Olympic champions Tamara Echegoyen and Berta Betanzos, though, provided the performance of the day, winning three straight races in the blue fleet to move to within six points of the race leaders.

Paris Henken and Helena Scutt are lying in ninth place but still celebrated securing their places on the American team at Rio 2016.

The duo have built an unassailable lead in their selection trials held in conjunction with this event.

Having won every race in the men’s 49er fleet, New Zealand’s Pete Burling and Blair Tuke’s formed dipped slightly on the fourth day of competition.

They were still able to record a victory and a second place finish from the four races, however, to further extended their lead in the overall standings.

The pairing lie on 11 points, with their nearest challengers, Australia's Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen, currently 28 points behind.

Diego Botín and Iago López Marra look like being the key focus for the Australian's in the remainder of the regatta.

The Spanish duo are  just five points adrift of second position.

France’s Billy Besson and Marie Riou remain unrivalled in the Nacra 17 class as the three-time world champions close in on a fourth straight victory, moving onto 33 points.

Australia’s Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin lead the chase for the silver medal, as the Rio 2016 bound pairing have a tally of 70 points.

Italy’s Vittorio Bissaro and Silvia Sicouri are third on 86.
