Patrizia Kummer of Switzerland claimed victory in the penultimate race of the season as she edged compatriot Ladina Jenny to strengthen her grip on the overall parallel slalom title at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Snowboard World Cup event in Moscow today.

Kummer, the current Olympic parallel giant slalom champion, capitalised on a mistake from Jenny in the big final to secure a comfortable win on the purpose-built ramp at the Krylatskoye Sports Centre.

The Czech Republic’s Ester Ledecká, who won the event at the 2015 World Championships in Austria, had to settle for third but remains the one to beat in the race for the overall Alpine Snowboard World Cup crown.

The Swiss leads the way in the parallel slalom standings and has moved up to third in her pursuit of the main prize on a total of 2,760 points.

Russia’s Ekaterina Tudegesheva is second on 2,960, with Ledecká in pole position on 3,390.

“Moscow and the ramp have always been good to me,” Kummer, who reigned supreme in the Russian capital four years ago, said.

“I really like to come back here every year.

"The slope on this ramp is really tough to race - it's a challenge, every time.

“Last year it was the jump, this year, you had to be clean on the edge.

“But it was definitely fun and it’s awesome to have a Swiss double win.”

Reigning world champion Roland Fischnaller of Italy earned victory in a thrilling men’s race to extend his lead at the top of the parallel slalom leaderboard as he crossed the line only two hundredths of a second ahead of Austrian Benjamin Karl.

Slovenia's Rok Marguc clinched the final spot on the podium as he came through to take third on a dramatic day of racing at the night event in Moscow.

The success for Fischnaller edged him closer to Bulgaria’s Radoslav Yankov at the summit of the overall rankings as the Italian now has 2,620 points, 670 behind top spot.

He remains the leader in the parallel slalom standings on 2,060 and both he and Kummer will be looking to wrap up the small crystal globe trophies when the final race of the campaign takes place in Jauerling, Austria on February 13.

“Coming here I'm always having a good feeling, and I guess that makes the difference,” Fischnaller said.

“I was absolutely focused on bringing home my third from Moscow after I had three third and two first rank finishes.”
