Technology specialists Sport:80 have partnered with the International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) to launch a cloud-based management platform which, it is hoped, will revolutionise the way in which they operate.

The system, which has already come into operation, will consolidate and automate many of the IF’s core functions in a centralised online platform, including memberships, events, logistics and finances.

This will provide the IWAS with a foundation upon which it can manage all of its operations globally, it is hoped, as well as modernising internal processes.

It comes shortly after the IWAS located to a new headquarters at Aylesbury College in England, having previously been based at the Olympic Village on Guttmann Road, even closer to the Paralympic Movement's ancestral home in Stoke Mandeville, two miles away.

“We are delighted to announce the launch of this project," said IWAS chief executive Charmaine Hooper.

"It will make a huge difference to the way we work and allow us to dedicate much more time and resource to projects which drive the development of our sports.

"It will also greatly improve the number, and quality, of services we are able to provide to our member nations, coaches, athletes and volunteers.”

Sport:80 is billed as a "conglomerate of sports industry professionals and software developers that specialise in sport management technology".

As well as the IWAS, the British-based company have already worked within the Paralympic Movement, having announced a 10-year partnership with the Boccia International Sports Federation in 2014.

They have also worked with other bodies including the London 2012 Organising Committee, where they developed a prototype technology platform used during the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup, a test event for the Games.

This formed the basis for the product now being used by IWAS.

“When we came up with the idea for the Platform, we were in a similar position to the sports organisations that are now engaging with us," added Sport:80 chief executive, Gary Hargraves,

"Our background is in delivering sporting events and logistics projects, and like many in the industry we felt we were constantly swamped down by time consuming and repetitive admin tasks.

"We were amazed by how little the market offered in terms of sport-specific technology that would allow us to overcome these challenges, so we developed a solution ourselves.

“We’ve put a lot of hard work into turning our vision for the Platform in to a reality.

"It’s great to see the technology now making a real difference to sports organisations like IWAS and we are looking forward to working with Charmaine and the team for many years to come.”
