Switzerland's Lara Gut extended her International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup lead by taking giant slalom honours in Lienz, Austria, today.

The 24-year-old Olympic downhill bronze medallist won for the fourth time this season, and for the third time in the last four outings, to move 158 points clear of American Lindsey Vonn in the overall standings.

Gut collected 100 points for her victory and was aided by closest challenger Vonn, who also has four World Cup wins this season, missing a gate on her first run to rule her out of the reckoning.

The Swiss skier clocked an overall time of 2 min 6.00 sec from her two runs with Liechtenstein's Tina Weirather finishing 0.12 adrift in second.

Third place went to Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany who was 0.30 behind Gut, while hosts Austria just missed out on the top three as Eva Marie-Brem, winner of the giant slalom last time out in the French resort of Courchevel, came fourth 0.36 off the pace.

Gut, who has claimed two victories in Val d'Isère, France and one in Aspen in the United States this season, was further helped after Slovenian Ana Drev, who led after the first run, crashed off the course second time around.

She now has 658 points on top of the leaderboard, with Vonn on 500 and Sweden's Frida Hansdotter third on 376.

The women's Alpine Skiing World Cup continues in Lienz tomorrow with a slalom race.
