A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed to extend the agreement between the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) and Greensprings School aimed at promoting education in the country, seen as a key value of Olympism.

The renewal of the partnership, which was established ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, comes as the school, located in capital city Lagos, continues to make giant strides in educating their students, according to the NOC.

“Our relationship is an un-ending marriage as Greensprings is a unique school with excellence, your involvement and contributions have exceeded our imagination and we are very proud and honoured to associate with your school,” NOC secretary general Tunde Popoola wrote in a letter to the school.

“The renewal will now enable Greensprings to be the flag-bearer for NOC and International Olympic Committee in Nigeria on Olympic value education programme in Nigeria until 2019.”

Popoola also believes the extension of the agreement between the NOC and Greensprings will allow the school to further enhance its work in teaching the Olympic values to its pupils.

The school is seen as one of the key education hubs in Lagos and teaches children from pre-school level right up to sixth form.

It is the only education establishment in the African nation which is allowed to use the NOC logo as a partner of the Olympic Movement.

Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) President Solomon Ogba, along with technical manager Yusuf Alli, are expected to visit the school in the near future to assess the quality of the athletics facilities which are available at the institution.

They will also discuss the possibility of installing a high-level tartan track at Greensprings as part of the AFN schools initiative.

The signing of the MoU comes ahead of next year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where Nigeria will be bidding to earn their first medal since Beijing 2008, where they finished with a haul of four, including one silver and three bronze.
