Hosts India and Singapore dominated the mixed doubles competition at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships at the Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay Indoor Stadium in Surat today.

The last four will feature three Indian pairs and one from Singapore.

In the first semi-final tomorrow Singapore's top-seeded Lin Hu and Zhou Yihan will face India's Soumyajit Ghosh and Mouma Das.

Lin and Zhou, winner of the title in New Delhi two years ago with Zhan Jian, defeated another Indian pair, Anthony Amalraj and K. Shamini 11-3, 11-3, 11-9

Ghosh and Das, meanwhile, had defeated Singapore’s second seeded Chen Feng and Yee Herng Hwe 13-11, 11-1, 11-6.

In the other semi-final, G. Sathiyan and Ankita Das, who defeated third seeds David McBeath and Karina Le Fevre from England, will take on team-mates Sanil Shetty and Manika Batra, who beat Singapore’s Chew Zhe Yu Clarence and Lin Ye.

India had yesterday won the men's team competition for the first time since 2004, while Singapore claimed the women's title for the eighth consecutive occasion, a run stretching back to 1997.

India also enjoyed a good day in the qualifying rounds for the singles with all four of its players in the men and women's tournament reaching the main draw.

Six out of seven England players also made it through to the main draw of the singles events.

David McBeath, Helshan Weerasinghe and Alex Ramsden all had 100 per cent records to win their groups in the men’s singles, a feat matched by Karina Le Fevre and Maria Tsaptsinos in the women’s singles.

They will join Tin-Tin Ho, seeded straight into the main draw.

The only player to miss out was Tom Jarvis, who won two of his three group matches but could find no way past Abhishek Yadav of the host country and who is ranked almost 100 places above him on the world list.
