Leading snowboarding tournament Air & Style will hold an official training camp as part of a "strategic cooperative" relationship with the Genting Resort Secret Garden, a proposed venue for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Under the deal, the resort in Chongli County will provide training facilities for Air & Style competitors while also holding various competitions organised by the franchise.

This marks a major boost for China as the nation seeks to maximise its exposure of Winter sports following Beijing being awarded the 2022 Olympics and Paralympics earlier this year.

Genting will also cooperate with Laax, one of the largest ski resorts in Switzerland, to build a "Youth Apartment" programme.

It is hoped it will also become a top training base for Asian skiers and snowboarders.

"Considering its advantageous geographical conditions and world-class snow facilities, we are looking forward to the cooperation with Genting Resort Secret Garden," said Andrew Hourmont, founder of Air & Style and chief executive officer of Air & Style in Europe.

Genting forms part of the main mountain venue cluster at Zhangjiakou, 194 kilometres to the north-west of Beijing.

It is set to host slopestyle and halfpipe snowboarding as well as freestyle skiing events during the Games.

There have been concerns over a lack of snow at the resort, but high artificial levels allowed the venue to open earlier than normal this season.

"I am surprised by the snow here," said Stale Sandbech of Norway, snowboard slopestyle silver medallist at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games.

"It's some of the best artificial snow I've ever seen, it's really good.

"It's really nice to come here."

A vow to use the Games to inspire 300 million new Winter Olympians formed a major part of the Chinese capital's bid, which was victorious over Kazakh city Almaty by just four votes at July's International Olympic Committee Session in Kuala Lumpur.

This comes as Beijing's Organising Committee was unveiled this week as pollution levels remain at record highs in the capital.
