Americans Danielle McEwan and Kelly Kulick were crowned doubles champions at the World Bowling Women’s Championships having proved to be the leading pair throughout the duration of the event at the Khalifa International Bowling Center in Abu Dhabi.

Competing in the first qualifying squad, the pairing scored a total of 2,843 points from their six games, which saw them advance to the semi-finals as top qualifier.

Singapore’s Cherie Tan and Shayna Ng, the runner-up in the second qualifying squad, were unable to seriously threaten their rivals, with Kulick’s score of 248 points helping the American pair to progress with a 453-412 victory.

In the second semi-final, Denmark’s Mai Ginge Jensen and Britt Brøndsted were hoping to overcome the South Korean pairing of Hyerin Son and Eunhee Jeon, crowned the singles champion yesterday.

A superb performance from Jensen saw her score 246 during the game, but her team-mates lower total of 176 proved pivotal at the close of the event as they rivals posted two solid scores to prevail 444-422.

The South Koreans improved their game further in a high quality gold medal match, as Jeon produced a score of 257, which saw them finish on a total of 461.

McEwan and Kullick achieved a total of 486, however, to claim the title, denying Jeon a second gold medal. 

The Americans are set to return to the lanes tomorrow to join their team-mates Liz Johnson, Shannon Pluhowsky and Stefanie Johnson in the first block of qualifying in the five-member team competition.

A second block are due to compete on Saturday (December 12), before the semi-final and gold medal contest take place later that day.
