The publication follows the completion of the Olympic Boxing Test Event in the Brazilian city.

Cuba have proved the proved the most successful nation in qualifying to date with seven of their boxers having already confirmed their places at Rio 2016, including three-time world champions Julio Cesar La Cruz and Lazaro Alvarez.

Cesar La Cruz earned his berth by securing gold in the under 81 kilogram light heavyweight division at this year's AIBA World Championships in Doha, while Alvarez earned the under 60kg lightweight title in the Qatari capital.

A total of 23 boxers achieved quota places at the Championships.

Another 20 qualified through the AIBA Pro Boxing tournaments.

Additionally, 17 places were claimed through their performances through Season V of the World Series of Boxing,  including Croatia’s super heavyweight champion Filip Hrgovic, who ensured his country would have representation at Rio 2016, having failed to qualify a boxer for London 2012.

“The qualification of 60 boxers is a demonstration of the hard work of the AIBA family in the development of the sport of boxing and I would like congratulate our member federations, the qualified boxers and all those involved,” said AIBA President C K Wu.

“I would also like to praise the AIBA team and Rio 2016 Organising Committee for the hard work in delivering the Boxing Test Event in Rio.

“I trust that with the support of the Organising Committee, AIBA will improve on the recent success of the World Championships in Doha to deliver an event greater boxing tournament in the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games.”

Morocco’s under 69kg welterweight boxer Mohammed Rabii is one of five African boxers who have already secured places, following his gold medal triumph in Doha. 

Ireland also has high hopes for success at for Rio 2016 with under 56kg bantamweight Michael Conlan and under 49kg light flyweight Patrick Barnes among four boxers from the country to have sealed berths.

Over 91kg super heavyweight world champion Tony Yoka of France and under 91kg heavyweight Clemente Russo of Italy are also among those assured of places.

A further 190 men and 39 women are set to confirm their places in the coming months with Olympic Qualifiers due to held in Argentina, Cameroon and China in March.

Kazakhstan is set to host the Women’s World Boxing Championships in May, which will act as their main qualifying tournament.

Final spots for men and women will also be earned at the World Olympic Qualifier in Baku in June.
