Australia's Bruce de Chastel claimed gold in the aeromodelling F3T at the World Air Games in Dubai today.

A repeat of yesterday’s bad weather played havoc with the schedule, but organisers decided to go ahead with the event which is also known as pylon racing.

The discipline sees pilots go head-to-head in their radio controlled model aircraft that fly through a course of pylons, similar to what occurs in a full-scale Red Bull Air Race.

Each pilot goes through a knockout competition with the best two meeting in the final, and the other two semi-finalists battle for the bronze medal.

De Chastel’s win came against tough competition and an even trickier challenge from the blustery winds that have cut down activities for two days now.

With his main aircraft crashing, he had to use his back-up model, which helped him win the gold medal.

Silver went to Germany’s Mario Müller, while Italy’s Paolo Mucedola came third to take bronze.

Held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and chairman of Dubai Sports Council, the fourth edition of the World Air Games is being held with 23 different disciplines at various dropzones in Dubai.

The main venue for the competition is the Skydive Dubai dropzone where activities will be held daily until the finals on Saturday (December 12).

An improved forecast has been predicted for tomorrow and it is hoped that events will be conducted as per the schedule.

Winds are set to drop to between nine kilometres and 18km per hour with sunny, pleasant and warmer conditions.

The United States top the medals standings with 11, including five golds, three silvers and three bronzes.

France occupy second place with one gold and two silvers, while Poland complete the top three with one gold and one silver.
