Gymnast Simone Biles, speed skater Joey Mantia and ice dancing duo Maia and Alex Shibutani have been named as the Team USA Award winners for the month of November by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

Eighteen-year-old Biles secured the women’s prize after claiming an historic third consecutive all-around title at the recent Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Glasgow.

She also became the first woman to win 10 career World Championships medals after taking home a haul of four titles in the Scottish city.

Biles was a member of the American contingent which earned gold in the team event before she added individual apparatus crowns on the balance beam and the floor, her preferred discipline, to her history-making individual success.

She is also one of five contenders for the USOC Female Olympic Athlete of the Year award but faces strong competition from tennis star Serena Williams after she earned three Grand Slam titles in 2015.

Mantia meanwhile also enjoyed a fruitful month as he clinched successive podium finishes in the International Skating Union (ISU) World Cup events in Calgary and on home ice in Salt Lake City.

The 29-year-old also earned silver in the team sprint event.

Maia and Alex Shibutani were chosen for the team award following their success at the IHK Trophy, held in Nagano, Japan, as they reigned supreme in the ice dancing competition after recording a total of 174.43 points.

The victory was their first Grand Prix series title for four years and saw them seal a spot at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, which begins on Thursday (December 10) in Barcelona.

Each National Governing Body nominates one female, one male and one team per discipline for the awards, presented by Dow and supported by supported by DICK’S Sporting Goods, Kellogg’s, Samsung and USG.

An internal nominating committee then selects five nominees from both the male and female categories, and three from the team category to advance to the voting round.
