Thailand propelled themselves back to the top of the medal standings at the ASEAN Para Games in Singapore after claiming gold medal sweeps in archery, shooting and boccia today.

Wasana Khuthawisap and Hanreuchai Netsiri claimed three archery golds between them, taking Thailand’s total tally in the sport to seven.

Khuthawisap, 39, took top honours in the women’s individual recurve open with a score of 95, finishing ahead of Indonesia’s Veronica Ninik Umardyani.

Although it was a tight contest in the women’s final, Netsiri was a clear winner in the equivalent men’s event as he triumphed over counterpart Boonyarit Chaipoon with 111 points.

Khuthawisap and Netsiri had earlier combined to win mixed team recurve gold for Thailand, outscoring second-placed Indonesia 6-0.

Meanwhile in shooting competition, Anuson Chaichamnan won the gold medal in the R4 10 metres air rifle standing mixed SH2 event, ensuring a clean sweep of all seven golds for Thailand.

Chaichamnan edged Indonesia’s Bolo Triyanto to the top spot, setting a Games record with a score of 207.3 points.

Thailand also enjoyed huge success in the boccia events and have now won all four gold medal contests and nine of the 12 medals overall.

Elsewhere on the fifth day of action, Thai swimmer Anchaya Ketkeaw continued her remarkable performance in the OCBC Aquatic Centre with two more gold medals. 

The 17-year-old now has six golds in the S9 classification with her latest triumphs coming in the women’s 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke in times of 30.98sec and 1 min 21.71sec respectively.

Home favourite Theresa Goh Rui Si triumphed in the women’s 50m freestyle S5 with a time of 49.41, making it five gold medals for her in all. 

In athletics, Indonesia’s Nanda Mei Sholihah claimed her third gold of the Games in the women’s 400m T45/46/47, adding to her earlier victories in the 100m and 200m. 

Philippine Jerrold Pete Macabio Mangliwan added his second gold by winning the men’s 200m T52, having already secured the 100m title.

Thailand head the overall medal standings with 60 golds, 58 silvers and 65 bronzes, followed by Indonesia with 58 golds, 51 silvers and 44 bronzes.

Action in Singapore is due to continue tomorrow with the Games set to run until Wednesday (December 9).
