Strong winds saw the first day of the Ski Jumping World Cup in Ruka postponed ©FIS

A strong wind prevented the first day of competition at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup event in Ruka from taking place, but an altered schedule means the round could take place at the Finnish venue tomorrow.

Official training and qualification had been scheduled to have taken place on Thursday (November 26) but a high wind had forced organisers to move both to today, with all 64 athletes set to take part in the evening’s competition round as planned.

However, conditions failed to improve throughout Friday morning with the organisers having to postpone the training round on several occasions in the hope that the stiff wind would reduce.

The wind speed had decreased, as predicted in weather forecasts, but the jury eventually decided to cancel the day’s programme determining that the conditions had not improve sufficiently for the first round to take place.

Following a team captain’s meeting it was decided that a training round would take place tomorrow (November 28) at 1pm local time, with Friday’s cancelled competition scheduled to be held at 2:30pm.

Saturday’s competition is then set to take place at 4pm.
