Award-winning CBC broadcaster Scott Russell will be the master of ceremonies for the upcoming Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) Hall of Fame induction ceremony, it has been announced.

Russell hosted CBC’s Road to the Olympic Games programme and has written three books in his career to date.

He will be tasked with hosting the ceremony, which takes place at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa on November 27.

“It is a distinct honour to have been involved with reflecting the story of the Canadian Paralympic Movement over the years through my work at CBC Sports,” Russell said.

“To help welcome these outstanding athletes and national treasures into the Hall of Fame is both enlightening and inspiring.”

The ceremony will see seven Canadian athletes inducted into the Hall of Fame, including wheelchair racer Chantal Petitclerc, 14-times Paralympic champion, and wheelchair basketball player Marni Abbott-Peter.

Others who were on the list of inductees, announced last month, are late Para-swimming coach Wilf Strom in the coaching category and wife Audrey, Donald Royer and the late Gary McPherson in the building category.

“Scott Russell is such an incredible storyteller and advocate for sports in Canada,” Martin Richards, executive director of communications and marketing for the CPC, said.

“We are honoured to have Scott join us in inducting our heroes of the past into our Paralympic Hall of Fame and inspire new generations of Paralympic champions through his work with the CBC.”

The CPC Hall of Fame recognises and celebrates those who have made a significant contribution to the growth and development of the Paralympic Movement in Canada.

The CPC holds an induction process biennially, excluding years during which a Paralympic Games are held.
