Defending champions Joachim Gerard of Belgium and Stephane Houdet of France inflicted a crushing defeat on Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina and Frenchman Nicolas Peifer to seal their spot in the final of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters on a day where all the top seeds progressed in Mission Viejo, California.

Gerard and Houdet were in no mood to hang around longer than was necessary as they breezed to victory without losing a game in their clash with the Wimbledon champions, emerging with a 6-0, 6-0 success.

They will go on to meet Britain’s Gordon Reid and his French partner Michael Jeremiasz in a repeat of the 2014 final tomorrow.

Reid and Jeremiasz ensured they would get the chance to avenge last year’s loss as they beat Dutch pair Tom Egberink and Maikel Scheffers 7-5, 6-2 in their semi-final.

The result keeps up their unbeaten record at the tournament and they have now won all four of their matches in straight sets.

London 2012 gold medallists Stefan Olsson and Peter Vikstrom of Sweden ended the tournament on a high by beating Britain’s Marc McCarroll and David Phillipson 6-2, 6-2 in the fifth-place play-off, while Japanese team Shingo Kunieda and Takuya Miki sealed eighth with a 6-0, 6-3 success against South Africa’s Evans Maripa and Alfie Hewett of Britain.

In the women’s event, Yui Kamiji of Japan and Britain’s Jordanne Whiley kept their pursuit of a third straight crown alive as they claimed a tense 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over Marjolein Buis and Michaela Spaanstra of The Netherlands.

The top seeds will entertain Dutch second seeds Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot, winners of the 2012 event, in the final after they overcame Germany’s Sabine Ellerbrock and Lucy Shuker of Britain in comfortable fashion with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

The beaten semi-finalists will play for third place tomorrow,  while fifth spot went to Britain’s Louise Hunt of Katharina Kruger of Germany as they clinched a 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 triumph over American pair Emmy Kaiser and Kaitlyn Verfuerth.

The quad doubles final will also be contested by the top two seeds as Nick Taylor and David Wagner of the United States will go up against Britain’s Jamie Burdekin and Andy Lapthorne.

Taylor and Wagner, who are bidding for a ninth title, proved too strong for Alfredo di Cosmo of Italy and American Greg Hasterok with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory, while the British duo thrashed Italian pair Alberto Corradi and Antonio Raffaele 6-3, 6-0.
