The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has launched a raffle in conjunction with Chisco Transport Company to raise funds for its athletes ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Tunde Poopola, secretary general of the NOC, said every trip made via Chisco until June 30, 2016, would qualify passengers for the three draws which are scheduled to be held across a 10-month period.

The first is due to be held in Lagos, followed by one in Kaduna and a final draw in Owerri with the 10 winners set to be rewarded with an all expenses-paid trip to Rio de Janeiro during next year’s Games.

"We believe that our contingent will win many gold medals this time around and that is why we have resolved to collaborate to support Team Nigeria to the Olympics," read a statement from Chisco.

Moses Chukwuka, special assistant to the chairman of Chisco Group Chidi Anyaegbu, said those who wish to participate in the draws but cannot physically travel can purchase tickets from all the company’s outlets at various locations across the country.

Tickets will also be available at their subsidiary companies as well as their Villa Angelia Hotels.

Isaac Osaikwiwu, the managing director of the initiative’s marketers O&I Contact, said the 10 winners would be assisted with obtaining all the relevant travel documents by the NOC.

"They will be transported to and from Rio," he said

"They will be provided accommodation and feeding for the duration of the Games."

Osaikwiwu added that the initiative was being used by Chisco in a bid to show it is a responsible corporate citizen, ready to contribute towards supporting Nigerian athletes in their quest for medals at Rio 2016.

Chisco has previously partnered with the organisers of the 2003 All-Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria and the 2009 FIFA Under 17 World Cup, hosted by Nigeria, as official transporters.
