The schedule for the International Hockey Federation's (FIH) women's World League Final has been confirmed ahead of the tournament in the Argentinian city Rosario this December.

In all eight countries will compete at the second edition of the event, and will initially be split into two pools of four.

Every side will progress to the quarter-finals regardless of where they finish in their group, although with the winners and runners-up facing the third and last placed sides in the other group respectively, the best performers will earn a supposedly easier game in the knock-out stage.

Reigning Olympic, World and Hockey World League champions the Netherlands will begin their title defence in Pool A against Germany on the opening day on December 5, which will also see New Zealand face South Korea elsewhere in the group.

Also on day one, Pool B matches will take place between Australia and China and hosts Argentina and Great Britain.

Pool matches will also be played on December 6 and 8 before the quarter-finals on December 10 and the semi-finals on December 12.

The final and bronze medal match are both scheduled for December 13.

All eight teams have already qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics so the tournament looks set to be one of the final chances for countries to test themselves ahead of next summer.

They made it this far by advancing from the Hockey World League semi-finals in Valencia, Spain and Antwerp, Belgium, earlier this year.

This year’s final venue, the Estadio Mundialista de Hockey, was built to host the 2010 Women's Hockey World Cup before later being used to stage the 2012 women’s Champions Trophy.
