Uzbekistan were the dominant force in the semi-finals of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok, ensuring they will be represented in seven of tomorrow’s 10 gold medal bouts.

Hasanboy Dusmatov was among the Uzbekistani fighters to advance from the penultimate round, beating India’s Laishram Devendro Singh at light flyweight to set up a clash with the Philippines’ Rogen Ladon, who overcame Mongolia’s Gankhuyag Ganerdene.

Compatriot Shakhobiddin Zoirov, the Incheon 2014 Asian Games silver medallist, won his last-four encounter against China’s Hu Jianguan at flyweight and now goes on to face Kazakhstan’s Olzhas Sattibayev, who fought hard to beat defending champion Azat Usenaliev of Kyrgyzstan.

Two other weight category finals, light heavyweight and heavyweight, will see Uzbekistan pit themselves against Kazakhstan.

Elshod Rasulov does battle with Adilbek Niyazymbetov at light heavyweight, after they defeated South Korea’s Kim Hyeong-kyu and Iran’s Hassan Shahini respectively, while Rustam Tulaganov faces Vasiliy Levit, winners against Iran’s Reza Moradkhani and Tajikistan’s Jakhon Qurbonov.

Uzbekistan will also be represented in the bantamweight, light welterweight and middleweight showdowns thanks to victories for Murodjon Akhmadaliyev, Fazliddin Gaibnazarov and Bektemir Melikuziev.

Akhmadaliyev, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist, defeated defending champion Shiva Thapa of India, while Gaibnazarov proved too strong for Syria’s Ahmad Ghossoun, and Melikuziev, the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games gold medallist, did enough to see off Iran’s Sajjad Mehrabi.

Thailand’s Chatchai Butdee awaits Akhmadaliyev in the bantamweight final before Gaibnazarov meets another home favourite Wuttichai Masuk and Melikuziev goes up against India’s Vikas Krishan Yadav.

Kazakhstan are represented in all three of the finals that Uzbekistan missed out on with Zakir Safiullin competing at lightweight, Daniyar Yeleussinov flying the flag at welterweight and Ivan Dychko going for gold at super heavyweight.

Safiullin meets Mongolia’s Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai prior to Yeleussinov’s clash with the Philippines’ Eumir Felix Marcial and Dychko’s bout against China’s Wang Zhibao.
