Hosts England began their campaign at the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Blind Football European Championships with an emphatic 7-0 victory against Poland at the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford.

Roy Turnham’s 10th goal for his country gave England the lead in the Group A encounter before Dan English successfully converted a penalty to make it 2-0 at half-time.

Robbin Williams bagged a brace within 90 seconds of the restart to stretch England’s advantage to four and he soon went on to complete his hat-trick after English had notched his second.

Keryn Seal scored from a free-kick to cap off the win for England, who now go on to face Italy tomorrow.

The other Group A clash saw Turkey and Germany play out a goalless draw as both teams got themselves off the mark.

Meanwhile in Group B, defending champions Spain were made to work extremely hard for a 1-0 victory against Belgium with Adolfo Acosta scoring the decisive goal.

The biggest shock of the day came in the other Group B contest as Denis Egorov netted the only goal of the game in Russia’s victory against 2013 European silver medallists France.

Prior to England’s Group A meeting with Italy tomorrow, Poland will look to bounce back from their harrowing defeat as they go up against Turkey.  

in Group B, Spain will be aiming for a more convincing performance against Greece before Belgium play France.
