International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Snowboard has revealed its calendar for the 2015 to 2016 Para-snowboard season, with events set to be held in North America and Asia for the first time.

The calendar is made up of seven World Cup events and three Europa Cups, while the decision has also been taken to include the discipline of giant slalom for the first time.

Aspen ski resort in the United States has been chosen as the first North American venue and is due to stage competition from February 4 to 6 as part of the North American (NORAM) Cup, before Big White in Canada takes up hosting duties from February 9 to 13.

Following the events in North America, Asia’s debut event is set to be held from March 6 to 7 at the Youngpyong Alpine Centre in Pyeongchang.

The centre is due to host competition at the 2018 Winter Paralympic Games and Dimitrije Lazarovski, head of snow sports at the IPC, believes the introduction of the South Korean venue and the American events will boost the sport.

"We have added Asian and NORAM Cups to expand the depth of competition across the world and continue to grow the sport, giving athletes more opportunities to compete," he said.

"It will also be the second full season of banked slalom, head-to-head format for snowboard-cross and the separation of the lower-limb impairment classifications, as well as the new addition of giant slalom to the Europa and new Asian Cup programme, so we really hope to accelerate to new heights.

"We are aiming to attract more athletes and countries as we build towards the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Paralympic Games where we will now have an incredible 10 medal events, a significant increase from the two we had at Sochi 2014."

The season is due to begin with a Europa Cup event in The Netherlands on November 18, with the indoor slopes of SnowWorld Landgraaf set to provide the athletes with a challenging course, before it hosts a banked slalom World Cup on the following two days.

The French ski resort of Les Angles is another new addition to the World Cup circuit as it will stage snowboard-cross and banked slalom events from March 9 to 12, while it is also staging the Europa Cup Finals from March 8 to 11.

Trentino is due to bring the World Cup season to a close from March 17 to 18, meaning that Italy will finally bring the season to a close having been unable to stage the final event of the 2014 to 2015 season at San Martino di Castrozza due to warm weather.
