Odivelas in Portugal will host the 2015 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Judo European Championships, it has been announced.

The Championships, due to take place from November 25 until November 30 in a city and a municipality in Lisbon Metropolitan Area, will be ranking event for countries seeking qualification for next year's Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The event was last held two years ago in Eger in Hungary.

The Championships, which will be hosted by the Portuguese Judo Federation and the Portuguese Sports Federation for Persons with Disabilities, will follow the success of last month's European Games in Baku where visually impaired judo was the only Paralympic discipline on the programme.

Two weight categories were included - women’s under 57 kilograms and men’s over 90kg and the events were a full and integral part of the judo programme at Baku 2015.

The IBSA Judo Committee were fully involved in organising the events and instrumental in their success, they claimed.

The film about the specialty of IBSA Judo was shown several times to educate spectators about blind judo.

The men's event was won by Azerbaijan's Ilham Zakiyev and the women's by Ukraine's Inna Cherniak.

IBSA President Jannie Hammershoi was the gift provider during the medal ceremony for Zaikyev.
