A total of six countries will take part in this year's Asian Blind Football Championships in Tokyo, it has been announced.

Hosts Japan will be joined by China, India, Iran, Malaysia and South Korea in the tournament organised by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) and which offers qualification places for next year's Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The event will hosted by the Japanese Paralympic Committee and Japan Blind Football Association and is due to take place over six days from September 2 to September 7.

IBSA claimed Japan’s success in hosting last year’s Blind Football World Championships, which brought together 12 nations, was key to the winning bid for Tokyo.

The 2013 Asian Championships were won by host nation China after they beat Japan 3-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw at the end of extra-time.

Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, staged the inaugural event in 2005, while the 2007 Championships were held in Seoul before they moved to Tokyo in 2009 and Sendai, Japan, two years later.

Teams will play each other in a round-robin first stage, before moving on to placement games on the final match day.

In the opening games India will face South Korea, Malaysia will take on Iran, and hosts Japan will play reigning Asian champions China.
