Australia’s Dylan Alcott moved to the top of the quad singles world rankings for the first time after claiming victory at the BNP Paribas Open de France title in Antony, Paris.

Alcott has been in superb form throughout the first half of the year, winning the Australian Open title and. following his win at the event in Paris on Sunday (June 28), he has now won three of the first four Super Series quad singles titles this season.

He replaces the United States’ David Wagner as the world number one having beaten him for the fifth time this season in the final, which saw Alcott comfortably take the first set 6-1 before completing a straight sets victory by winning the second 6-2.

Having secured the singles title, Alcott joined forces with South Africa’s Lucas Sithole to win the quad doubles event, beating British pair Andy Lapthorne and Antony Cotterill 6-1, 6-4 in the final.

In addition to Alcott, Japan’s Shingo Kunieda and The Netherlands’ Jiske Griffieon left Paris with two titles each as they were victorious in both the singles and doubles tournaments.

Griffieon was in inspired form in the women’s competition as she recorded straight sets victorious in her quarter and semi-final matches over France’s Charlotte Famin and Germany’s Sabine Ellerbrock respectively.

The 30-year-old then earned a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 victory over her fellow Dutchwoman Aniek van Koot to secure her first singles title at the French Super Series event.

Both finalists had a day earlier combined to win an all-Dutch women’s doubles final, seeing off the challenge of fourth seeds Marjolein Buis and Michaela Spaanstra 6-4 6-4.

World number one Kunieda had a much more difficult time in the men’s singles final as he was forced to fight from a set down to Belgium’s Joachim Gerard, having lost the opening set in a tie-breaker.

Gerard was unable to sustain his high level during the second and third sets, however, as Kunieda took charge to secure a 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Alongside France’s Stepahne Houdet, Kunieda also secured men’s doubled success as they defeated French pair Michael Jeremiasz and Nicholas Peifer 6-3, 7-5.

Houdet and Kunieda are set to defend their men's wheelchair doubles title at Wimbledon, with the tournament at the All England Club due to run until July 12.
