Duracell will be the official battery partner of the Rugby World Cup, due to take place in England from September 18 to October 31, it has been announced.

The deal adds to the vast array of sponsors for the 20-team tournament and the agreement was hailed by World Rugby chief executive Brett Gosper.

He claimed the partnership "further underscores the enormous prestige of the Rugby World Cup in global commercial marketplace”.

He added: “We are delighted to be welcoming Duracell as a new member of the growing Rugby World Cup commercial partner family.

“With 88 days to go to what promises to be a very special and record-breaking Rugby World Cup, we look forward to collaborating with Duracell to project rugby to new audiences worldwide and inspire more men, women and children to get active and play the sport.”

Duracell become the latest company to be associated with the event as Heineken, Land Rover, Société Générale, DHL, Emirates and MasterCard are all worldwide partners, while Coca-Cola, Canon and Toshiba are official sponsors.

The announcement follows the recent appointment of Dove Men+Care as official male grooming supplier.

“Duracell is proud to be part of Rugby World Cup 2015,” Duracell’s business leader for Britain and Ireland Vicky Miller said.

“As a globally recognised brand, we are excited to be reaching our consumers through rugby not only in the UK & Ireland but also in key markets such as Italy, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

“At Duracell we aim to deliver power and longevity, two adjectives that are synonymous with rugby, so we believe our involvement is a natural and exciting fit.”

The tournament will see the world’s best teams battle it out for the Webb Ellis Cup and World Rugby claim the commercial success of the event has allowed them to invest £330 million ($520 million/€464 million) in the development of the sport from grassroots to the elite level.
