IPC Swimming World Championships to be screened online as schedule is confirmed

All seven days of competition at next month's International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships will be streamed live on the event’s website, it has been announced.

The event, due to take place from July 13 to 19 at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow, provides swimmers with the chance to earn a place the next year’s Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The schedule for the competition has also been announced and will see heats beginning at 10am local time and finals starting at 6pm.

“We are delighted to be showing every single minute of action from Glasgow 2015 live online,” IPC director of media and communications Craig Spence said.

“The competition is expected to be intense and fierce with the world's best swimmers not only trying to win world titles but also places for their country at Rio 2016.

“Whilst the livestream, with the excellent commentary of Paul Noble, will provide comprehensive coverage of the event, tickets for Glasgow 2015 are still available and there is no better way to experience the excitement of para-swimming than attending in person.

“The atmosphere at Tollcross during last year's Commonwealth Games was sensational, and if we can experience that superb level of support again then I am confident that Glasgow 2015 will be the best Para-swimming World Championships ever.”

It is expected that the IPC Swimming World Championships will attract around 580 athletes from 70 countries.

American Jessica Long, a 12-time Paralympic gold medallist, will bid to earn yet another title in the S8 events, while double London 2012 champion and compatriot Brad Snyder will also compete.

Jacqueline Freney of Australia returns to the international scene after a three-year hiatus following her outstanding performance at London 2012, where she won a staggering eight S7 golds.

Four-time Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds, due to participate in the S6 races, leads the hosts’ contingent and will be hoping the crowd can drive her on to more success.
