Baku 2015 have announced tickets for the Opening Ceremony on Friday ( June 12) at the Olympic Stadium have sold out as the start of the inaugural European Games draws closer.

Around 48,900 tickets have been sold and the Stadium will be at full capacity with 68,000 spectators due to watch the Ceremony unfold.

The Ceremony will also be streamed live on the Baku 2015 website and will include exclusive behind the scenes footage, with the build-up to the event beginning at 12 noon local time on the site and across various social media platforms.

“This is an amazing achievement and something of which we should be extremely proud for what will be the biggest night in Azerbaijan’s sporting history,” Baku 2015 chief operating officer Simon Clegg said.

“With just three days to go to the spectacular show, we have hit another significant milestone on this incredible journey.

“For 30 months we have been transforming a vision into a reality and now we will welcome the most significant addition to the European sporting calendar for 50 years with a full Stadium.

“My thanks go to all the BEGOC (Baku European Games Operation Committee) staff, more than 78 per cent of whom are locals, to all their hard work in delivering not only this sold-out Opening Ceremony but also the entire Games, where the sporting sessions are also selling rapidly.”

As well as tickets for the eagerly-anticipated Opening Ceremony selling out, it has also been announced that seats for 106 sport sessions have also all been snapped up.

“The excitement around the European Games which has been so obvious in Baku is continuing to be reflected in the ticket sales,” Clegg added.

The Opening Ceremony will form part of Baku 2015’s extensive social media and website coverage, which will go on throughout the Games.

The official Baku 2015 website will stream live video of ceremonies and sport competitions as well as providing up-to-date news, information and daily schedules during the Games.

As well as the website and mobile app, which launched last week, spectators are encouraged to engage with the Games through the Big in Baku website, a social media hub designed to involve as many people as possible in the inaugural event.

The aim is to create a fully-integrated hub across several different platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, forming part of Baku 2015's strategy to bring everybody closer to the Games, which are due to conclude on June 28.
