Scottish Swimming appoint Harper Macleod as Official Legal Adviser

Scottish Swimming have appointed Harper Macleod, one of Scotland’s leading law firms, as their Official Legal Adviser.

Harper Macleod had been the Official Legal Adviser for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, in which Scotland’s swimmers proved to be among the top performers as they secured 10 medals at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

Dan Wallace earned gold in the 400 metres medley event before adding two silvers to his personal tally in the 200m medley and as part of the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay, while Hannah Miley and Ross Murdoch both earned one gold and one bronze medal at the Games.

Having supported the successful Games, Harper Macleod’s new role will see them provide vital support to the governing body, who are responsible for swimming, diving, open water swimming, synchronised swimming and water polo in Scotland.

“We are delighted to have been appointed to this role, which will give us the opportunity to support Scottish Swimming as it builds on its successes in recent years and the legacy of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games,” said Martin Darroch, chief executive of Harper Macleod.

Scottish Swimming are responsible for more than 21,000 members at 160 clubs throughout the country and are hoping to develop and grow the sport across the country.

“Harper Macleod’s expertise in the sporting arena made them an obvious choice for us to work with,” Forbes Dunlop, Scottish Swimming chief executive, said.

"We’ve just released our new corporate plan highlighting our ambitions for the next six years so to have them on board from the outset provides a firm foundation on which we can deliver against our objectives,"

A year on from hosting the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow’s Tollcross International Swimming Centre is currently hosting the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships, which started on Monday (July 13) and is scheduled to finish on Sunday (July 19).
