The International Academy of Sport Science and Technology (AISTS) are welcoming applications from current and former professional athletes for their Athlete Scholarship, to help in their dual and post-sport careers.

The scholarship has a value of CHF 14,000 (£10,000/$15,000/€13,000), which will fund half of the tuition fee of the AISTS Master of Sports Administration programme, endorsed by the International Olympic Committee, which aims to develop the next generation of leaders in sport.

Open to current or former athlete who has competed at international level, such as participation in the Olympic Games, the 14 month international postgraduate programme, will enable athletes to develop their career in sports management.

With the programme taking place in the Olympic Capital of Lausanne, in Switzerland, candidates will be required to demonstrate the ability to support the costs of living in Lausanne, estimated to be CHF 2'400 (£1,700/$2,500/€2,300) per month, including accommodation, and cost of travel to Switzerland and back to their country of residence.

Additionally, candidates for the scholarship must be able to provide supporting documentation of their sporting achievements, for instance official results or evidence from an International Federation, while also completing a letter detailing their motivation for obtaining the scholarship.

Each year the Master of Sports Administration programme attracts a variety of aspiring sport managers, who after completing the programme progress to roles within International Federations, the IOC or Games Organising Committees.

Successful candidates for the masters programme will receive training from experts and academics in fields such as management ad  economics, technology, law, sociology and medicine, equipping them for their future roles.

Previous winners of the AISTS Athlete Scholarship have included the former captain Ireland’s women’s hockey team, Nikki Symmons, Nigerian sprinter Enee Udo-Obong, an Olympic gold medallist in the 4x100 metres relay at Sydney 2000, as well as Germany’s Olympic windsurfer Toni Wilhelm.
