Baku 2015 have announced they have added Iranian company General Entertainment and Media Television and Croatian station Sportska Televizija (SPTV) to the list of broadcasters who will screen coverage of this year’s inaugural European Games.

GEM TV Group will have exclusive broadcast rights for the Games in Iran,  the biggest country in Western Asia, and the event will be shown on free-to-air channels YAHSAT, NILESAT and HOTBIRD.

They will cover the event on a daily basis over their television, digital and mobile platforms and the agreement means a further 75 million people will be able to watch the event in the Azerbaijani capital.

SPTV, a free-to-air channel which became the first to be set up by a National Olympic Committee, are due to screen 10 hours worth of coverage a day.

The Croatian company are also set to provide coverage of both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as extensive promotional content on their home athletes.

“The appeal of the European Games has been remarkable,” Baku 2015 chief operating officer Simon Clegg said.

“Our stated aim has always been to ensure that the most significant new international sports event for 50 years could be seen by as many people as possible across Europe and beyond, and this agreement and others with international networks demonstrate the broad appeal of the event around the world.

“It is wonderful that the Iranian public will be able to join in the excitement of the first ever European Games.

"The European Games are incredibly important for European sport, and that is why we have worked so hard to ensure that viewers across the continent and around the world are able to follow the competitions.

"Thanks to this agreement with SPTV, the Croatian public will be able to participate by supporting their athletes."

The deals add to the extensive list of countries that will now be able to watch the first-ever Continental Games in Europe as Baku 2015 have already signed agreements with broadcasters in nations including Australia, Britain, Latin America, India, Hong Kong and others in the Arab world.

The other latest agreements to have been reached include with NTU, a national free-to-air public broadcaster which will offer exposure to over 16 million households across Ukraine, while Georgian Public Broadcasting, a national free-to-air broadcaster, which broadcast London 2012, will show the European Games.

Baku 2015 also remain confident that a broadcasting deal will be reached in Russia, and Clegg told insidethegames that they are still in negotiations which could see the Games screened in one of the largest countries in the world.
