Russia’s women dominated the final day of judo competition at the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games as they clinched two golds in Seoul.

Alesia Stepaniuk reigned supreme in the under 52 kilograms competition as she followed up a victory over Frenchwoman Sandrine Martinet in the semi-finals by beating Natallya Nikolaychyk of Ukraine in their gold medal contest.

Stepaniuk’s compatriot Irina Kalyanova then secured their second gold of the day as she proved too strong for Belorussian Arina Kachan in the over 70kg weight category.

Elsewhere, there was more judo joy for the home nation as Jung Min Lee got the better of Sharif Khalilov of Uzbekistan in the under 81kg division to add to the success of team mate Ha Na Seo, who won gold in the women’s under 75kg event yesterday.

In the other category to be decided today, Dmytro Soloyev ensured a much-needed triumph for Ukraine as he claimed gold in the men’s under 70kg competition with a superb victory over Russian Shakhban Kurbanov.

On a packed day of action in the South Korean capital, Finland’s women picked up a one-two in the showdown event as Hanna Vilmi beat compatriot Jaana Pesari 3-2 in their gold medal contest.

Elzbieta Mielczarek of Poland secured the final podium spot as she won bronze by virtue of a 3-1 success over Italy’s Chiara di Liddo.

In the men’s event, Leander Sachs of The Netherlands claimed the title with a 3-2 win against Italian Marzo Ferrigno, while there was yet another Finnish showdown medal as Ari Lahtinen beat team mate Teemu Ruohonen to bronze.

Ukraine and Spain will battle it out for the IBSA Partially Sighted Football World Championships title tomorrow after both secured their passages to the gold medal match.

European champions Spain booked their place with a 3-1 victory against Italy, who will face Japan for bronze, while Ukraine were in superb form throughout, finishing top of their five-team group with a 100 per cent record.
