Seven West Media Group have become the latest Official Partner of the Australian Olympic team, it was announced today. 

The deal was revealed during the Australian Olympic Committee's (AOC) General Meeting in Sydney today and will cover Australian teams competing at Rio 2016, Pyeongchang 2018 and Tokyo 2020,

It also covers the Winter and Summer Youth Olympics in 2016 and 2018, due to be held in Lillehammer and Buenos Aires respectively, as the well as 2020 Winter, which has yet to be officially awarded. 

Under the agreement, Seven West Media has team marketing rights across its different platforms - online publishing, television, newspapers and magazines - for all Australian teams between now and 2020.

The company, owners of Australia's largest commercial television network, which is the main Olympic and Paralympic broadcaster in the country, will provide media assistance to the AOC as well as supporting the organisation’s Olympic Education Program, which has already reached 17,000 Australian teachers.

Besides ownning the Seven Network and The West Australian, newspaper, it is also the second largest publisher of magazines in Australia and owns 21 Western Australian regional newspapers, nine regional radio licences, a specialist publishing business and WAN’s digital division.

“The announcement re-affirms Seven West Media’s total commitment to the Olympic Movement,” AOC President John Coates said.

“Although Seven has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the Olympic Games, which stretches back to Melbourne 1956, we are thrilled they have now come on board as a partner of the team.

“The new agreement will see it provide a range of services which will enhance our teams and their preparation through until 2020, as well as the experience of fans and viewers alike when they cheer for the green and gold on the world stage.”

Another key element of the partnership is youth engagement surrounding the Australian team, who are targeting an improved haul of medals when the Olympic Games come to the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

The agreement between two organisations who have a long history of working together has been hailed by Seven chairman Kerry Stokes, who is looking forward to continuing to aid the progress of the AOC.

“We are extraordinarily proud of our long-term partnership with the Olympic movement,” Stokes said.

“We are looking forward to Rio and beyond and are delighted to commit our company to a partnership with the Australian Olympic Committee.”
