Polish Olympic mountain bike medallist Maja Włoszczowska has been revealed as the latest international Athlete Ambassador for the Baku 2015 European Games.

The Beijing 2008 women’s cross country silver medal winner will represent her sport and feature in marketing campaigns and on social media to promote this summer’s inaugural continental Games.

As well as her Olympic success, Włoszczowska was the 2010 women’s cross country mountain biking world champion and has a total of 22 world and European medals to her name so far.

“I am very excited to be an Athlete Ambassador for the first European Games and I am looking forward to competing in Baku this summer,” she said.

“I will do my best to raise the profile of the Games and the sport of mountain biking in Europe and around the world.”

Andrzej Kraśnicki, President of the Polish Olympic Committee, welcomed the announcement and promised Włoszczowska will do a fantastic job to promote the Games, which will take place from June 12 to 28, in Poland and beyond.

“Bringing Maja on board as an international Athlete Ambassador is a great endorsement of the first European Games and testament to the calibre of athletes we will attract to Baku this summer,” he said.

“The success which Maja has enjoyed so far in her career reflects her dedication to the sport of mountain biking and we very much look forward to seeing her compete for the European Games title here in June.”

Włoszczowska joins the likes of German table tennis player Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Greek fencer Vassiliki Vougiouka, Irish boxer Katie Taylor, Great Britain’s taekwondo athlete Jade Jones, French rhythmic gymnast Kseniya Moustafaeva, Danish canoe sprinter René Holten Poulsen, and the Serbian 3x3 basketball team of Dušan Domović Bulut, Marko Savic, Marko Zdero and Dejan Majstorovic as Baku 2015 Athlete Ambassadors.

More are expected to be announced in the near future.
