The FISU Universiade Supervision Committee (CSU) saw the delegation, which included CSU chairman Kemal Tamer, Summer Universiade director Marc Vandenplas, CSU vice-chair Hisato Igarashi, CSU member Kenny Chow,  as well as members of Taipei 2017, take a look at various elements of Gwangju’s preparations.

Gwangju’s venues were inspected, and the FISU delegates were reportedly impressed with what they saw, particularly the Nambu University International Aquatics Center and Kwangju Women’s University Universiade Gymnasium.

“General tests and simulations should be conducted with all functional areas at least one week prior to the Atheletes Village opening,” Tamer said.

“After several meetings and venue inspections, I am confident that Gwangju will host a successful Universiade.”

The CSU also emphasised the need for optimum security at the Games, and Gwangju Universiade Organising Committee (GUOC) secretary general Kim Yoon-Suk said they had taken all comments on board.

“I would like to thank FISU CSU and the FISU secretariat for their support and constructive feedback,” he said.

“Next month we will be better prepared.

 “In July, we will be perfectly prepared.”

Gwangju 2015 will now get the chance to take a further look at all aspects of their preparations and to rectify any current shortcomings at the Heads of Delegations (HoD) meeting, due to take place from April 11 to 15.

The visit is set to feature 200 delegates from 60 countries, and on April 12 the inspection, venue tour and the HoD meeting are scheduled, before the draw for the team sports such as basketball, volleyball, water polo, football and handball is made the following day.

South Korean Olympic handball gold medallist Hong Jeong-Ho will assist with the draw, along with three-time volleyball Olympian Kang Man-soo, former footballer Choi Soon-ho and representatives from the different sporting organisations.

The meeting itself will allow the GUOC to showcase their event to the rest of the world as foreign journalists will also be able to attend.
