Reigning champions Norway defeated Canada to move joint top of the standings © WCF/Michael BurnsDefending champions Norway ended Canada's unbeaten record at the World Men's Curling Championship to draw level with the hosts at the top of the overall leaderboard at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax.

Sochi 2014 Olympic champions Canada stretched their unbeaten record to six matches by claiming a 7-4 victory over Japan, while Norway continued their pursuit of the hosts with a close fought 8-7 win over Finland.

Norway were then able to draw level with Canada in the standings after claiming a comprehensive 9-3 victory, owed primarily due skip Thomas Ulsrud earning four points in the third end.

"We showed up to play tonight," Ulsrud said.

"Tonight we had real comfort in the ice and everything.

"We were a bit lucky to score four in the third end and after that it was really a game they had to go all out and we managed to defend."

The two teams now boast a record of six wins and one defeat from their round robin matches, but are being closely followed by Switzerland, who earned an 8-7 win over Finland in the opening session of the day before falling to an 8-2 loss to Sweden.

It was the Swedish team's second victory of the day having already earned a 7-3 win over the Czech Republic in the morning session, to move into fourth place overall, level with the Japanese team who earned an 8-1 victory over Italy in the morning session.

Scotland earned their first wins of the World Championship firstly defeating Russia 8-6, before clinching a 6-4 win over the United States.

Despite the victories Scotland remain bottom of the leaderboard, alongside Italy who suffered two defeats on the fourth day of the Championship, while China and the United States also have the same record of two wins and five defeats, after a win and a defeat in today's sessions.
