Anna Sidorova led Russia to two victories on the second day of action in Sapporo ©World Curling FederationChina, Switzerland and Russia are the only teams boasting unbeaten records at the ZEN-NOH World Women's Curling Championship in Sapporo following completion of the first three fixtures. 


The first day of competition saw China and Switzerland secure victories from their opening two matches and they continued their form in their single matches today.

China faced a winless United States team and took a 3-2 lead in the fourth end of the match are a good stone from skip Sijia Liu, before pulling away to claim an 8-4 victory.

The Swiss team, the defending world cahmpions, also enjoyed a routine win as they overcame Germany 7-3.

Having secured a dominant victory in their opening match of the tournament against the US, Russia were attempting to build upon their positive start in matches against Norway and Denmark.

Russian skip Anna Sidorova put her side into a 3-0 lead against Norway in the first end, after taking out a rival's stone.

The Russian's kept their foot to the accelerator as they raced into a 9-2 advantage to force the Norwegians to concede defeat after the sixth end, before replicating the feat in their second match as they cruised to a 7-0 triumph over Denmark.

"That's only three games - eight more to go," Sidorova said.

"We're not doing anything different this year.

"We're curling like usual but we're believing in ourselves and we're getting better."

Olympic champions Canada had a mixed day on the sheets, recording a 9-4 win over Scotland before falling to defeat in a rematch of the Sochi 2014 Olympic final against Sweden, as the Swedes gained revenge with an 8-6 victory.

Despite the defeat Canada sit joint fourth in the standings alongside Finland and the hosts Japan, with the teams having earned two wins and one defeat from their matches.

Germany, Scotland and Sweden have one win and two defeats from their opening fixtures, while Denmark, Norway and the US are still searching for their first victory.
