Anna Holmlund dominated the womens competition on Sunday ©FISSweden saw home success at the Ski Cross World Cup in Åre, as Anna Holmlund dominated the women's competition from start to finish, while Jean-Frédéric Chapuis of France earned victory in the men's event.

Holmlund bounced back from disappointment in yesterday's event having been disqualified in the quarter-final stage for missing a gate, but she was in inspired form today, winning every heat before earning the title in the big final.

She was aided by favourites Andrea Limbacher of Austria and Switzerland's Fanny Smith crashing out of contention in the final, but Holmlund never looked in danger of losing throughout the day, on the way to her first victory since 2011.

"There have been some races before where I felt I really could win, but finally being able to do it and win is so good," Holmlund said.

"Last year was a rough year for me.

"I remember here in Åre last year I was happy when I didn't make it through the quarter-finals because it meant I didn't have to deal with it anymore.

"So to come back this season and get the win is another kind of victory for me."

She was followed home in second by Andrea Zemanova of the Czech Republic, who achieved her first ever World Cup podium, while Limbacher recovered from her crash to take third.

The men's event saw Chapuis maintain his good form, as he backed up his second place finish yesterday by topping the podium for the first time this season.

The Frenchman battled through the rounds before winning the final ahead of Switzerland's Alex Fiva and Germany's Paul Eckert, who finished second and third respectively.

"I'm happy I finally won one," said Chapuis.

"I've been second, second, second, sometimes fourth, so today I'm really happy to win.

"I had good skiing today, and a good start, and I was able to keep it all together from the first run to the finals."
