The Spanish side currently have Azerbaijan's "Land of Fire" tourism slogan as their main shirt sponsor but that has now been altered to include the logo for the inaugural European Games.

The change has been made in time for today's mouth-watering Madrid derby between Atlético and Real at the Vicente Calderon stadium.

"Atlético Madrid are the Spanish champions and one of the best-known teams in the world," said Baku 2015 commercial director Charlie Wijeratna.

"Having the Baku 2015 logo on the club's jerseys is an innovative way to raise awareness of the European Games, add value to our brand, and continue to increase the momentum we are building."

Atlético Madrid are bidding to retain their La Liga crown and will be hoping to go one better by winning the Champions League after defeat to their fierce rivals in last season's final, with Diego Simeone's team facing German side Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16.

The logo is prominent on the front of Atlético's red and white striped shirt and represents another step forward for Baku 2015 as they continue to strengthen their brand awareness ahead of the first-ever European Games, which run from June 12 to 28 in the Azerbaijani capital.

"Our players will wear the Baku 2015 logo with pride today and during the rest of this season's UEFA Champions League," Atlético Madrid chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín said.

"The inaugural European Games represent a great step forward in our continent's sporting development, and as one of the leading Spanish and European football clubs, we are delighted to be associated with the Games and to promote Baku 2015."

The news follows Baku 2015 signing five more broadcasting deals last week and food producer Azersun Holding and supermarket chain Bazarstore were unveiled as the latest Official Supporters on February 3.
