The first-ever Central Asian Para Games will take place in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent ©IBSAUzbekistan will host the inaugural Central Asian Para Games in September, the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) have announced.

The Games will comprise of athletics, judo, swimming, arm-wrestling and powerlifting for blind or partially sighted athletes and they are due to take place from September 12 to 16 in Uzbek capital Tashkent.

The event will be organised by the Uzbekistan Paralympic Committee in accordance with the Asian Paralympic Committee.

Athletics competitions, which will include the 100 metres, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m, as well as long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus and javelin, will take place in the 35,000 capacity Central Stadium Pakhtakor.

The Games are also set to feature seven men's weight categories and six women's weight categories in the judo discipline, with the competitions happening at the Uzbekistan Sports Venue.

Powerlifting and arm-wrestling will occur at the Uzkorgazmasavdo sport complex, while there will be plenty of opportunities for the region's swimmers as they will be able to compete across six different distances, ranging from the 50m freestyle to the 200m medley.

Tashkent has staged major sporting events in the past as it played host to the 1995 and 2005 Central Asian Games for able-bodied athletes.

The Central Asian Para Games will give the competitors the opportunity to build towards Rio 2016 and they also represent another step forward for the Paralympic Movement which continues to reach different corners of the world.
