The IBSA have announced that the bidding process for the 2015 Blind Football Asian Championships is now open ©IBSAThe International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) have announced they have opened the bidding process for the 2015 Football Asian Championships.

Countries who want to host the sixth edition of the B1 category event have until March 15 to submit a bid.

The 2013 tournament was won by host nation China after they beat Japan 3-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw after extra-time.

The Chinese side then went on to finish fourth in the IBSA Blind Football World Championships last year, which were also hosted by an Asian nation as they took place in Tokyo, Japan.

A field of 12 teams descended on the Japanese capital to provide one of the largest Blind Football gatherings in recent times, and the tournament was eventually won by Brazil.

South American counterparts Argentina, Paraguay and Colombia competed, while Spain, Japan, Germany, France, Korea, Turkey and Morocco also took part.

Similar events to that of the Asian Championships took place last year, with the African Open Blind Football Championships, the IBSA Euro Challenge Cup and the IBSA Partially Sighted (B2/B3) Football European Championships proving the sport is continuing to enhance its global reputation.

The 2015 Asian Championships will also provide the nations involved with a chance to build towards the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, was the host of the inaugural Asian event, while the 2007 Championships were staged in Seoul before they moved to Tokyo in 2009 and Sendai, Japan, two years later.

All three categories of blind football, B1, B2 and B3, will be a part of the IBSA World Games in Seoul which are due to begin on May 5 and finish on May 18 this year, and these will also act as the IBSA World Championships.

IBSA member countries from the Asia region are invited to complete the sanction application form, available here, before submitting their bid to the IBSA secretary general at [email protected].
