Justine Dufour-Lapointe wins Freestyle Skiing World Championship moguls gold

Canadian Olympic champion Justine Dufour-Lapointe added the world moguls title to her growing medal collection with victory at the Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships in Kreischberg, Austria today.

Dufour-Lapointe, who was a bronze medallist in the same competition in Norway two years ago, finished with a total of 87.25 points in the final, ahead of American defending champion Hannah Kearney, who amassed 85.66 points.

Australian Britteny Cox claimed the final spot on the podium after she gained 81.98 points, while Dufour-Lapointe's older sister Maxime finished just shy of a medal in fourth place.

"I am so happy," Dufour-Lapointe said.

"I can't believe it.

"It was a title that I really wanted for two years and to be world champion is amazing.

"I am feeling incredible.

"I did my best today.

"I skied the best I could and it worked so well.

"I am really proud of myself right now."

The victory marked a continuing trend of success for the Dufour-Lapointe sisters, as her other sibling Chloé is also the 2013 dual moguls champion.

"We started skiing because it was a family sport," Justine added.

"We could all gather and ski together.

"Then we loved so much to go fast, so we skied in moguls and fell in love with it."

The men's event provided a huge shock as Frenchman Anthony Benna took gold despite having never finished in the top 15 of a major event before.

He also had to overcome a defending champion to take the title as his total of 86.89 points proved just enough to beat Canadian star Mikaël Kingsbury by just 0.35.
