The former model and ex-wife of Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, who lost her left leg in an accident in 1993, previously announced her intention to qualify for the Sochi 2014 Winter Paralympics, but eventually abandoned her attempts after becoming embroiled in an equipment related row with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

Mills claimed she had suffered injuries as a direct consequence of an enforced equipment change, with the IPC ruling her initial prosthetic leg was unsuitable.

The 47-year-old Britain would need to reach speeds in excess of 200 kilometres per hour to set a new record for a female disabled skier, and believes that a new prosthetic skiing leg deems the record an achievable goal.

"Skiing is a high-octane sport and I knew the risks when I first set about training," Mills said, as reported by the BBC. 

"For me, though, the most frustrating thing was that my initial prosthesis only offered very limited movement which was neither natural nor comfortable and tended to hinder my performance somewhat."

Mills had enjoyed success on the World Cup circuit during her bid to qualify for Sochi 2014, before her attempt ended prematurely, but her new goal is being supported by the London Prosthetic Centre.

"The London Prosthetic Centre have developed a prosthesis that feels like a part of me when I'm skiing and for that reason I have complete confidence when I'm on the slopes," she added.

"It's what allows me to continue pushing myself to the limits, hence my next challenges."
