August 7 - Britain’s young athletes heading to the inaugural Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore next week are set to receive a boost ahead of their departure from London Heathrow Airport on Monday (August 9) with Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games bob skeleton gold medallist Amy Williams (pictured) set to see them off in person.

Williams will make a special appearance at a hotel at London Heathrow Airport as the athletes receive their official Team GB kit for the Games.

She will also deliver words of inspiration and advice from her Vancouver experience to the young athletes, their coaches and parents.

Athens 2004 Olympic modern pentathlon bronze medallist Georgina Harland, who is an International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athlete Role Model for the Youth Olympics, will join Williams in passing details on her experience to the young athletes, many of whom will be experiencing a multi-sport competition environment for the first time.

The Olympians will be joined by another famous Briton who achieved an inspiring feat in February 2010 in the form of BBC Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton.

Skelton kayaked 2,010 miles along the Amazon River in aid of Sport Relief and will join Williams and Harland in addressing the young athletes.

Skelton will be with the Team GB athletes on their journey to Singapore and throughout the Games where she will be joined by fellow children’s presenter Ore Oduba from Newsround in reporting on the Youth Olympic experience.

The 2010 Youth Olympic Games kick off on August 14 with teenage diving sensation Tom Daley and 400 metre runner Victoria Ohuruogu, the younger sister of Olympic 400 metre champion Christine, set to be two Britain’s strongest medal contenders.

The British team will take a total 39 athletes from 16 sports and 18 disciplines to Singapore with all 26 sports on the summer Olympic programme set to feature at the Games.

A total of 3,600 athletes, aged 14-18, from over 200 nations will be taking part in Singapore while the BBC will broadcast rolling highlights of the Games on the BBC Red Button, updated twice daily at 8am and 3pm.

These highlights will also be available on BBC iPlayer while insidethegames will be providing unrivalled written coverage of all the action live from the Games.
