The International Fencing Federation has signed a three-year partnership with Euronews ©EuronewsThe International Fencing Federation (FIE) has announced a historic agreement with Euronews which will see the television news channel promote the broad scope of fencing disciplines and championships to its upmarket audience.

Alisher Usmanov, President of the FIE, joined Michael Peters, chief executive of Euronews group, in making the announcement during the FIE's Annual Congress in Rome.

Under the current three-year partnership with the FIE, Euronews will feature highlights of the FIE national, regional and international events, among others.

Special reporting on competitions will find its natural place within the channel's sport bulletin, on-air and digital outlets, while a global advertising campaign also forms part of the agreement.

"Fencing is a multi-faceted sport, demanding not only concentration and discipline, but the sense of nobility as well," said Usmanov.

"It's what our world needs today."

He added: "Fencing has a huge legacy and I'm confident it should be shared with millions of people, in particular with the young generation.

"So, we are eager to promote fencing highlights to a broad audience.

"I think that the FIE's partnership with Euronews, one of the most popular TV channels in the world, will assist us in achieving our long-term goals."

The multi-lingual, multi-cultural news channel Euronews, which can be viewed worldwide through multiple digital devices, is renowned for its diversity driven by the 30 nationalities of its journalistic staff, as well as the variety of themes broadcasted in 13 languages.

"It is an honour to have the opportunity to offer a premium visibility to the members of the International Fencing Federation and to all Fencing disciplines," said Peters.

"Committed to diversity, we are dedicated to all the sports and will continue to broaden our sports programs in the future, both on-air and on a broad range of digital devices."

Earlier this month, Euronews announced a partnership with SportAccord, the umbrella organisation for all Olympic and non-Olympic International Sports Federations (ISFs), making it the first television news channel to cover every sport in the world.

The groundbreaking deal offers the 92 ISFs the potential to reach a television audience of 420 million homes in 156 countries.
